no internet connection

First - I’m a total openSUSE/Linux noob. I read through other posts and tried some suggestions, but unsuccessful.

I’m running openSUSE 10 and after rebooting, lost the internet connection. network status shows a wired connection using eth0.

Everything was working fine before the reboot… Any ideas?

openSUSE 10.x is no longer supported…you should update in order to
have a secure system…

on the other hand, maybe you are actually running

SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop (SLED) version 10

which came pre-installed on a new computer you bought (?)…

if you are running SLED 10 you are welcome here but will be MUCH
better served at forums.novell.com (here, very few folks have any
experience with SLED, and most all of us are volunteer helpers and are
running openSUSE 11.x, and over on the Novell site there are folks
obligated to provide you support, since that is a commercial product)…

on the other hand, check back here because maybe a (real) network guru
stops in with some advice on your connection problem…

and if you actually are running openSUSE you sure need help to
update to 11.2 or 11.1…so, speak.

Try shutting the computer down, then unplug it, then hold the power button in for about 20 seconds.

Then plug your computer back in and boot up.

If that doesn’t work maybe rebooting your modem will.

ok! always wanting to learn, i have one question: Why?

I really don’t know why but it’s worked for me in the past with that scenario.

are you running SLED or just openSUSE 10.x?

If you are running openSUSE what desktop are you using?
