No Internet at all.

Hello there. Just today I installed opensuse 11.3 on my Compaq CQ61. Even though I am able to connect to networks (both with an ethernet cable and wireless) I don’t have internet access. I have used opensuse for a very brief period in the past and I had no such problem.

With a wired connection I can visit a page as long as I enter the IP address manually. For example entering 74.125.230.147 in the firefox address bar loads google.com, but entering google.com directs in a “unable to connect page”. With konqueror normal addresses work fine while connected with an ethernet cable. With wireless no matter the browser nothing loads.

Manually setup the DNS. Use the IP of your ISP’s DNS or use the Google public
DNS; 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

If you are not sure how to manually setup DNS read over this HowTo.

It is also possible that you will need to disable IPv6, but first check if
assigning manual DNS entries solves the problem. Read through this thread
for details on disabling IPv6.
