No HDMI output Pavilion DM3 laptop NO HDMI

Here is the output of

Any help appreciated.

HDMI video out is fine, HDMI audio is a no go.

I looked at the script output, and I do not see anything unusual.

I did a search on the alsa website to see if I could learn anything about the IDT 92HD81B1C5 hardware audio codec in your HP Pavilion dm3 Notebook PC and I could find no information.

You could try an alsa update to 1.0.23 of alsa, but given I obtained no information from my searches I am a bit skeptical that will work.

My best suggestion, IF you have a small amount of time to chase down a solution, is to write a bug report on openSUSE component “sound” on openSUSE-11.2.

Attach (don’t copy and paste, but attach) to the bug report the text file from running:

/usr/sbin/ --no-upload

and that will create the file /tmp/alsa-info.txt which can be added as an attachment. That has bunch of technical info that may show the SuSE-GmbH sound packager what is wrong with the alsa driver wrt HDMI sound, IF you also describe the audio symptoms.

Note the SuSE-GmbH packager for sound is also an alsa developer, and if he fixes this, the fix gets sent upstream and ALL Linux distributions will benefit from your efforts with him.

There is guidance here for raising bug reports: Submitting Bug Reports - openSUSE … The alsa developer/openSUSE packager, may ask that you try a few different alsa versions, and hence if your schedule is too busy for such support (and I definitely know what that can be like) then its probably best NOT to write such a bug report. But if you have the time, everyone with the same hardware under Linux will benefit from your interaction with the SuSE-GmbH sound packager/alsa developer.

Don’t reference this forum thread, as the SuSE-GmbH packager refuses to read forum threads. Its important the bug report has all the salient information.

Good luck !!

done. I’ll see what happens. As usual, oldcpu, your posts and knowledge are always good learning and reading material.
