no grub

Hello,
I am new to SuSe. Recently I tried to load openSuSe 11 on a pentium 4 comp with 1+1 gb ram. The comp is having two 80 gb hardisks of which one is an ntfs drive. The installation goes smoothly but unable to boot if from the first boot device which is the linux partition set as /dev/sda. I tried reparing the installed sysem but after repairing the boot loaders it shows that " an error occured during installation" and the system goes to text mode. fdisk -l shows the ntfs drive as /windows/C(selected while installation, tried to change but could not) and is marked with a * in the boot device column, same is for the /dev/sda from which i really want to boot. The ntfs drive do not have any windows installed in it it is just formatted that way and contain some data(i dont want to format it again). This were working well in slackware 12. Any soltions to this
thanks in advance
