No graphical installation on 4 different computers

I am coming from Ubuntu because it’s giving me some trouble on my main PC with its Radeon 6850 card.

Anyway, I’m trying to install Leap 42.1 to see if it’s any better. Problem is that I can’t get the graphical install to work. It always takes me to text mode and I have no idea what I’m doing there. To see if this was just a driver issue, I booted the USB to 3 other PCs in my house.

  • PC with R9 280x
  • Dell XPS 13 9343 laptop
  • Dell Vostro 1520 laptop

All of them would only boot into the text mode install. I’m not sure if I did anything wrong. I even played around with the video option by pressing F3 to no avail.

Btw, the iso I’m trying is the network install of Leap 42.1 if that makes a difference.

It’s strange because I’ve seen Youtube videos of people going through the installation process and they all load the graphical install just fine.

If no one has an idea of what’s going on, then I’d appreciate help on the text mode install. I want to dual boot Ubuntu so that’s why I wanted the graphical mode to work so I can do the partitioning. I am aware of using gparted but I’d prefer doing it during the installation itself.

As best I recall, the network install is text only until it has setup the network. Only then, it downloads the GUI over the network, and GUI install proceeds from there.

Try the full DVD

But then what is wrong with text mode it should still install. You may need later to install the proprietary driver.

btw there is no need to use a cli tool like gparted for artitions when
you are in the text mode installer, it just has the menu driven features
to partition during the install process the graphical installer has
