No externam monitors identified, 12.3 + Dell Precision M4600 + e-port plus pr02x

Hi,

my external monitors (both are connected to the e-port plus via DVI) are not identified.
They are not in the monitors section if I probe my hardware.
Everything works fine in Windows 7 on the same laptop and the docking station.

Cheers,
Sergey

You need to supply more info to get useful responses. We know nothing about your graphics hardware or driver in use:

/usr/sbin/hwinfo --gfxcard

With the displays connected, note what is reported by the following command

xrandr

Thank you for your response.

/usr/sbin/hwinfo --gfxcard

You output shows that you have NVIDIA Optimus (hybrid) graphics system, which is currently using the intel chipset and driver. Your NVIDIA chipset requires the use of a specific proprietary driver and the means to switch between them. I don’t have direct experience with hybrid graphics systems, so you may need to search these forums for further info. For now, I can only point you at these

Thank you !
I will try to do it and report next week.
Yesterday I tried to install the nVidia Linux Display Driver x86 319.17 and it turned everything on my monitor up side down
Which I was not able to fix without the complete X-Windows reinstallation.

I recommend you start a new thread with a descriptive title (eg “optimus+nvidia” in the title) if you should required further help with this. That will attract the attention of others who may be able to help.
