no boot, menu.lst entries gone

so I did restore from a backup to an empty drive.
and I got no boot at all…
I don’t know how it happened, but my menu.lst entries are gone.
so I did a

grub> find /boot/grub/menu.lst
grub> root (hd0,1)
grub> setup (hd0)
grub> quit
#reboot

and now I boot but to a grub interface…
where do I go from here?
I looked at yast/bootloader for some help but the entries are gone and this is what led me to cat menu.lst and discover my entries are gone…
I have the basic setup 12.1 with KDE and the desktop kernel.
I wasn’t sure which direction to proceed…
it looks like vmlinuz points to the desktop kernel…
and initrd points to the desktop ramdisk…
any help appreciated…
thanks.

it appears that yast has an option to propose a new bootloader configuartion…
I used it and now have a booting system…
mods if you happen to read this you can mark it as solved…

Its good to hear you were able to solve your problem. We don’t normally go back and add solved to our message threads. You can do it to your last message like this one. You can also add it to the tags at the bottom for the entire message thread as well as I shall do.

Thank You,

which is the results i would expect…

i think, because backup-restore paths i am aware of would not include
the MBR…

hence, nothing in “an empty drive” would tell the BIOS what to do next.
