no audio through Skype usb phone

hi there folks.
I am new to this forum and new to Linux

It seems that i can not get any audio through my skype usb phone, when i go to options and audio devices all i have is ‘Pulse Audio Server(local)’ it doesnt even say what sound card i have or anything like that.
When i first installed Opensuse 11.3 it worked fine, but i had some other trouble and had to re-install and now i just cant get the audio thing right , can anybody help me?
>:(

In another forum thread here, one issue was the source of the skype files. Here is the suggested source.
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/broumbroum23/openSUSE_11.3_NonFree_standard/

There also seemed to be some benefit in checking your multimedia setup, message #40 has the most recent script:

MMCHECK - Check Your Multimedia in 10 Steps - Script File, as proposed by RedDwarf

I also have a script to check your audio setup and gives you the ability to determine if turning the Pulseaudio server on or off makes any difference.

S.T.A.R.T. - SuSE Terminal Audio Reporting Tool

If you want to read about all of the gyrations the other user went through, here is the thread to read:

Skype crashes at log-in screen

Thank You,

still am unable to change the ‘PulseAudio Server(local)’ does not change, cant get all the additional audio pieces, pls help.

I am trying to help. Did you following any of the advice I have given? Please specify just what steps you have taken so far that has been suggested to you and the results for each.

Thank You,

i copied the code and try to run it , but nothing happened , as i got an error, i re-downloaded skype from the link and installed it but , still no change

To add the repository I gave you, you must open up YaST / Software Repositories. So, if you open a Terminal Session and run the following terminal command, we would like to see a listing of your repositories:

zypper repos

This will list all of the repositories in your computer. Copy and paste the list into a message here. We would expect to find the following repository in the list:

http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/broumbroum23/openSUSE_11.3_NonFree_standard/

With the correct repository in the list, open up YaST / Software Management and search on Skype. Then, for each file located, go to the versions tab and change the bullet so that the new repository you added will be used and update the Skype files from this new listing. Just adding in a new repository does not cause the files to be updated without further action on your part.

Thank You,

not sure what u mean??
you mean i need to reboot no??
thank you

If you press Alt-F2, you get a pop up command window. In it, type konsole. Then the program shows up in a list below so you can select it with your mouse. In konsole, type the command** zypper repos. **Copy and paste the result of that command here in it’s window into a message here in the forum. I am getting ready to go to a movie and I will be offline for a while. Good lick.

Thank You,

hi there.
well i pressed alt+f2 and typed in ‘zypper repos’ and pressed enter and nothing happened.
someone on another forumhas told me that pulseaudio is my default device so i disabled that and am trying to install Alsa which i think i have, but cant quite figure out how to make it the default device.

if i type in the terminal ‘alsamixer’ i get the device stats, and it keeps showing pulseaudio as default card i have tried to disable it once , but i am not having much luck here.

have uninstalled skype to be able to reload the correct version.

alt+f2 and typed in ‘zypper repos’
That was Alt-F2, type konsole, select Konsole from the list with your mouse and then in the terminal window you type **zypper repos and press enter. **Copy and past the result of the zypper command in the terminal window into a message here in the forum. Using konsole assumes you have loaded KDE for your desktop. Got to the follow the exact details as given.

Thank You,

heres the result of that list:

In addition to the above repositories, you need to add packman. Here is its URL:

http://packman.jacobs-university.de/suse/11.3/

Make the required changes and then re-post your new repository listing. We will stick with this item by item till we get it correct.

Thank You,
