My embedded flash “just worked” immediately after a fresh-install + packman apps. I suspect somewhere along the way, in trying different things, something has been done to block this. You could try working your way thru RedDwarf’s guide to see if that helps:

Removing and reinstalling firefox pulled in the following packages as well.

However, the problem still stays. I am trying the guide. Will post what I find
after this.
Its possible you need a restart.

Well running through the guide, I found that I lacked gstreamer packages.
Actually, I remember that I had removed them long time back as I don’t use them.
However, this time I pulled them in and they pulled in some other packages. Here
is the list:
amrwb
faac
faad2
gstreamer-0_10-fluendo-mpegdemux
gstreamer-0_10-fluendo-mpegmux
gstreamer-0_10-plugins-bad
gstreamer-0_10-plugins-bad-lang
gstreamer-0_10-plugins-good
gstreamer-0_10-plugins-good-extra
gstreamer-0_10-plugins-good-lang
gstreamer-0_10-plugins-ugly
gstreamer-0_10-plugins-ugly-lang
jack
ladspa
liba52-0
libass1
libavc1394-0
libcdaudio
libgmyth0
libgstphotography-0_10-0
libid3tag
libiec61883
libmms0
libmpeg2-0
libshout3
libsidplay1
libSoundTouch0
libtsmux0
libv4l
soundtouch
speex
I remember packages like faac, speex are not those I would remove. So, I doubt
they had been removed when I made zypper dup for KDE 4 packages.

Well the problem still stays.

Well, I was also having a xine error message displayed just after startup.
http://imagebin.ca/view/gMgHSlZk.html
However, even after this message, audio is working for Amarok, kaffeine and
SMPlayer.
What is that? That does not come from OSS, Non-OSS, Update, nor Packman. It appears to me it comes from some KDE repos. How many other apps have you installed from such repos? This could be a hint to the root of your problem. You could have installed any number of apps from non standard repos, which has broken something, somewhere. >:(
I assume you know that the apps on those repos are not subject to the same testing as apps that come from OSS and Non-OSS. There is a good chance that could be causing problems. If you don’t need it then I recommend you remove it. For example, the xine and amarok apps I have are:
amarok-yauap-1.4.10-100.pm.2
amarok-1.4.10-100.pm.2
amarok-libvisual-1.4.10-100.pm.2

libxine1-codecs-1.1.16.3-0.pm.2
libxine1-pulse-1.1.16.3-0.pm.2
I am typically very very very cautious if I install ANY app outside of OSS, Non-OSS, Update and Packman.

The problem still stays. Btw, what do you make of the error message in my
previous post? I am not very sure about what it means because it shows each
time; yet audio works each time on Amarok.
I had hoped it would go away after removal of this "kde3-amarok-xine-1.4.10-37.1 " … its possible it is related to a config file that set up, which was not removed when the rpm removed.
The problem with installing such respos as the KDE repos, is unpredicable things can happen (there is very limited testing of those rpms). Hence I NEVER use those repos, and hence I have no idea as to what effects they may cause, and hence can not speculate how to sove them.
A silly question, … under something like Desktop Settings > Sound, did you check to ensure pulse audio is not the preferred output device ?
Try removing the package “libflashsupport”, it was the only thing that was causing problems for me.

Well this one came during the recent “zypper dup”; but the problem was there before.

Well I checked in System Settings > Multimedia the preferred audio device shows:
HDA Intel Digital and Analog. There isn’t pulse. I think I had removed pulse.
Thanks for the suggestion; but it didn’t work.
Btw, folowing oldcpu’s instructions, now I have got mplayer plugin and wmv streamed files work with my browser now.
