No audio from Music CD's. . . .

I’ve got Suse 11.0 with most of the latest KDE 4.1 software installed and the only problem I have is that I can’t seem to figure out why when I put in a audio music cd into my cd/dvd player I can’t get it to work or play. . . .any help would be appreciated. I’ve got the sound card correctly configured with Alsaconf. The sound card and the cd/dvd’s are recognized by the computer setup software in Suse. Maybe I’m missing some files or something. I don’t know. . . .Any help would be appreciated.

Make sure you are using Amarok from Packman

Packman:
Index of /pub/linux/misc/packman/suse/11.0

What is the actual problem…will it not play or you just can’t hear it? If there simply is no sound try a KDE friendly player like kaffeine to listen to the CD. Some players require a hardwire to the soundcard and that might be the issue.

I’ve got amarok installed. I did codecs-kde.ymp and reinstalled all of the codecs. Problem seems that when I insert the cd into the player, the player doesn’t do anything as if the player isn’t mounted. K3b works fine for burning cds etc. But playing audio cds nothing happens. When I stick a data cd created by k3b into the player the device notifier on the desktop panel immediately shows a cd has been installed and I can click on the cd then Dolphin opens up and shows me my data files. But when I install a audio music cd nothing happens. Any idea’s anyone? …this is driving me crazy. . .I’m using latest KDE 4.1 only.

Have you checked to see if the cd is visible in the folder /media

although you get no notification from dolphin it might be visible in dolphin. Just navigate to the folder in the tree.

how does k3b respond, can it see an audio cd?

or what about a application like jripper?

Here we go. K3b does show the audio files of an audio cd that is put into the cd/dvd player and it also specifies that it sees an audio disk.
Kaffiene does work when you install a audio cd and ‘hit’ play audio cd. That’s great. It shows the tracks and plays the music.

Under root folder/media/ the folder is empty and shows no media audio files, or audiocd or even cd/dvd.

Why doesn’t juk, Kscd, Banshee, work? In Amarok when I try to add media files (from storage media) using the audio cd that it shows,(media/sr0) and it says’ cannot start process, unable to create io slave’. Klauncher said: unknown protocol’audiocd’.

So my question is why does it work for some and not others? ?? What could be the possible fixes I need?

Any help is appreciated. . .

Think I got it all running right now. Thanks for the help anyways.

Hi,
You said that you got it all running right, what was the fix?

thanks

Please tell me your solution because I have the same problem and I am new to Linux.

Hi
I just upgraded my system from openSUSE 9.1 to 11.1 with kde4. Initially my DVD/CD player worked using the amorok/kde3 player. A flag would appear when the CD was inserted. I was installing a number of packages using YAST and then I noticed I was no longer getting the flag when I inserted a disk although YAST continued to read the disks.Amorok says it cannot find the CD player. Using konquerer in kde3 mode I looked at system:media/sr0 and got the message
"Could not start process Unable to create io-slave:
kluancher said unknown protocol ‘audiocd’ "

Suggestioons on how to fix the problem willbe appreciated.

Try KsCD for playing cd’s

In dolphin try this in the location bar: audiocd:/
And check this
