no 3D rendering in fullscreen mode

After an update run by Apper, my Suse loosed 3d support with games in full-screen mode; besides no kde desktop effects can be activated either openGl or XRender composition. What could be happened?
Opensuse 12.1 uname -r = 3.1.10-1.9-desktop kde edition regularly updated.
Video card: 1:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G80 [GeForce 8800 GTS] (rev a2)
nvidia drivers taken by this repository: ftp://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/12.1/ and installed by Apper.

Thank you for help.

If you’re using KDE, uncheck: System Settings -> Desktop Effects -> Advanced -> “Suspend desktop effects for fullscreen windows”

@please_try_again: OP states the desktop effects don’t work at all.

IMHO your installed NVIDIA driver does not match the updated kernel. Install the NVIDIA driver manually, i.e. “the hard way which isn’t hard” :D. This page is for 11.3 but still valid for 12.1 : SDB:NVIDIA the hard way - openSUSE

and, as I just noticed, has a GeForce 8800 GTS.

Please do not use 295.40 or the security patch with GeForce 6, 7 or [b]8800GTX/GTS cards - nV News Forums

The bug has been already discussed in other threads. The solution is to either downgrade or upgrade the driver. See here: http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/hardware/475013-nvidia-update-kills-angry-birds.html#post2460357

And please o not use Apper.
