Is it just me or is the nntp down, my reader complains now for more than an hour that it cannot get a connection. Do others see it as well?
Hi
Nope, it appears to be down here too
It looks to be the NNTP server/service - the gateway is still trying to run, but it’s not what your newsreader actually connects to.
I’ll see if I can find someone to escalate it inside Novell.
Thank you.
update, near lunch time in northern europa (almost 3 AM in Salt Lake): still broke.
heh! (i’m editing after sending, just because i can) someone send me a mail/PM when it gets fixed please…otherwise i’ll be out looking for a life.
wow, you can edit and then edit some more…i want that ability with KMail!! i demand to be able to send email and then edit it 9 minutes later!!
Life is over for nntp ATM
is that your observation of the facts, i.e., NNTP not working, or a comment on new company / server policies you’re aware of, i.e., NNTP not deemed necessary or useful anymore?

by the way, last evening i got vBulletin error messages (on the db being broke) for about 15 minutes last night (afternoon in Salt Lake)…maybe in ‘fixing’ that someone ‘unplugged’ the nntp server ?? (just thought i would mention, in case that potential connection it is helpful to the fixers)
i don’t know what to do with all this free time–maybe i will go chase loose . . . :shame:
Having no nntp gave me the time to play with the Mageia 2 alpha. Dangerous times for my openSUSE
We had some trouble yesterday with the forums. Kim will attend to the ntp side once he comes around from his Nocturnal Slumber
NNTP service will resume normally ASAP. Unfortunately the management of such is down to a limited number of individuals (myself not included)
do you have so much as the means to verify the nntp server hosting ‘machine’ (V or otherwise) is running? maybe it just needs to be started up ?
or: the network linkages inside Novell (since we know it dies inside Novell) are they sending/receiving/passing bits? (i’m thinking there probably is one admin on duty somewhere that will know where the nntp server is in relation to the last hop <192.94.118.247>…like, maybe someone just needs to pick a different cable/switch/router to let the info flow to a perfectly running nntp server, cut off from the world…
sorry for using so many confusing technical terms … so said the networking non-Guru
I understand
But I don’t have access to Novell side.
I’m working on it with others though.
That sounds like a bit of an understatement. It wasn’t accessible from here – unable to login/database error plus apology for inconvenience noted. Then when login was successful, no response on selecting any function. At least the web interface seems ok this morning.
i don’t care what all the other say, i think you are a good person!
Looks like it’s up and running

openSUSE®, the “German Engineered Automobiles” of operating systems!
and, nntp is down again (1835 L)
and, strange: i was sent to a Novell sign in page…which is like back to last year…
Me too, about 5 mins ago, as the system had logged me out from the forum.

It’s back up now.

It looks like along with the wiki, the forums are moving from iChain
(which is no longer supported) to Access Manager (which is).

Yep, there’s a message on the wiki mailing list about this specific issue
- that while the move is taking place, there’s a ‘compatibility mode’
they’re using which means we’ll see the Novell branding until the
migration of all the openSUSE sites is complete. No word on how long
it’ll be.
