No, a thunderbird thing

Three panels: one with the list of groups, one highlighted. The list of
posts of that selected group is on the second panel. One of those posts
is highlighted, and its contents are displayed on the third panel.

If the second panel (list of posts) is selected I can just tap the
cursor up or down keys of the keyboard, and I can display the previous
or the next post, even if I read it a week or a year ago, they are not
deleted unless I want.

Just as in email.

In alpine you can also display previous or next post in a folder, but
you can not display both panels simultaneously.

I just sent a post using Alpine on this laptop; here it works.

I’m now at the situation leafnode is best: a temporary internet
connection. I connect (via cellular radio), download/upload nntp posts
and email, and disconnect.

Then read, write, and when ready connect again for the next batch.

(ugh… I almost burnt my pizza - unfamiliar oven)

Ah, I understand. The name of the machine must be unique (there is some
RFC about that) because it used to create the ‘message-id’ for the posts
you send. It is the same with email, but the MUA (the client software)
has learned to be inventive and they create those identifiers somehow
unique (in the sense that no other post in the entire internet should
have the same ID ever). Which is why “localhost.localdomain” is not valid.

And fully qualified just means that it must have a dot somewhere

Do you remember the numbers? I have 1.11.8, yours should not be very
different (development is very slow). There is a branch of leafnode that
might use numbers ‘2’, but it is not the same developer group.

Maybe version 2 is more picky :-? I have not tried it.

That’s what happened to me the other day. I had it working about a year
ago, but now I can’t.

Then there is some other problem.

You can check if the structure “/var/spool/news” is populated. The list
of availabe groups is “/var/spool/news/leaf.node/groupinfo”, whereas
nntp.opensuse.org” would be the groups with posts, the active ones.

There is also a set of log files at “/var/log/news/”. I usually have a
terminal open with “tailf /var/log/news/news.debug” to see what is going
on. Do that before running “fetchnews -v” and you can find what is going on.

Could be.

New software, new difficulties.

No, it was not actually sent, it failed to get out.

It was rejected by opensuse, I think. No idea why.
