Newest Nvidia driver causes X crashes

Hi. I’ve got brand new, newly installed opensuse 11.1 with 8800 GTS 512MB card. First thing I did after installing the system was going to the 1-click install page for NVIDIA and performing it. Everything went fine, but after reboot i got text login screen. I logged, and typed “startx”. Outcome:

Any ideas? Help greatly appreciated!

Hi. Maybe you’ve just installed the wrong driver. You can go back to the open drivers for now with

sax2 -r -m 0=nv

Then have a look at NVIDIA - openSUSE. Good luck!

Thanks, but it’s definitely the good driver. I used this button before (with my previous opensuse 11.1 installation) and it went fine. This makes me think that the newest nvidia drivers are what is screwed. I just need to find a workaround, fix, or a way to install older drivers. (second one is of course preffered resolve)

Ok, fixed. For some reason, the one-click install button installed package “nvidia-gfxG02-kmp-trace” instead of “nvidia-gfxG02-kmp-default

I uninstalled the trace one and installed default while using vesa drivers. Thanks for help!
