Newbie problems

I just installed openSuse 12.? 64bit and the system does not see my wireless hardware.
When I open the network tool and click the wireless button then click the add button nothing happenes.
Sorry to say but I am clueless as to what to do now. I am a spoiled Ubuntu baby that has not had to figure these things out.
Can someone tell me where to start looking for a solution. I am willing to read where should I start?
I am also running Ubuntu but wanted to give Suse a try.
Fortunatly I have a dual set up on my computer or I would not be here right now.

So from Ubuntu
Can we see

lspci -nnk | grep -iA2 net

If you do the following in Ubuntu, you we let Ubuntu take back control of the bootloader

sudo update-grub
sudo grub-install /dev/sda

JFYI

Thanks for the reply, I can boot into Suse OK just don’t have internet when I get there.

$ lspci -nnk | grep -iA2 net
02:00.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller [10ec:8168] (rev 01)
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. P5B [1043:81aa]
Kernel driver in use: r8169

Looks OK
Try openSUSE again
and post the same info from there, except

/sbin/lspci -nnk | grep -iA2 net

Looks like the same output, obviously I cannot copy and paste it here but the last line
kernel driver in use r8169

Go yo Yast
Network Settings and switch to Network Manager Controlled
See if that helps

Solved and thank you.
Now its off to explore SuSe.

Awesome
I just think of things randomly and make suggestions.
Enjoy.

i think booting from Ubuntu back into openSUSE cleared the 12.3
broken-wireless-on-install bug, and then all he needed was to go from
ifup to NM, and bingo, automatically works.

Was this just in case I didn’t understand how or why?

no, it is just in case another user googles into this thread tomorrow
(or next year) s/he won’t think that random ideas or reboots might
fix their just installed 12.3 wireless failure…

ok?
