[Newb] Making sure everything is configured properly

Hi everyone,

Sorry in advance if these questions have been answered before, I have just upgraded my computer to OpenSUSE and am still adjusting to it. Since installation I have been noticing a few weird little things such as when I installed the codecs for VLC (as per the instructions on this forum) through the terminal it told me that the Desktop and something else had to be removed as well as that their was an error with the installation (no code or anything and videos worked perfectly after). Also, sometimes when I boot the system up the NetworkManager applet says that the network is disconnected (after reboot it works fine). I was just wondering if there was anyway to make sure everything is installed/configured properly and that their are not conflicting packages or errors I need to be fixing either through the terminal or yast.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
