New wireless card

openSUSE 12.2 32bit KDE

I run an old box with 12.2 as a backup server on a wired LAN using a fixed address with ifup. I just added an Air Force One 54g wireless card otherwise identified as a Broadcom BCM4318. The instruction page https://en.opensuse.org/HCL:Network_(Wireless) lists the BCM4318 but only offers help with openSUSE up to version 11.3. Could someone please point me to a page with advice for 12.2.

Thank you.

this is the networking forum, there is a sub-forum for wireless…go
there and look at the top of the list of posts and you will find
three stickies…look through all three…most folks get going in
there somewhere…but if not, there are explicit instructions on
what information you need to provide in your next post (which should
be to the wireless forum)

by the way, when you post there use a more descriptive subject, maybe
like: “Air Force One 54g (Broadcom BCM4318)”

12.3 on the other hand has a known problem outlined in the release
notes…read it when you need it…

The instructions are the same for any version after 11.0. You need to install
the firmware using

sudo /usr/sbin/install_bcm43xx_firmware

I changed that wiki entry.

My apologies. Of course you are correct. If necessary I will post there, but I believe the answer following yours will solve my problem. Thanks for the quick response.

no apology needed…

i wasn’t saying “YOU did wrong!” instead i was trying to help you
find the help you deserve…as it turned out, the guy who hangs in
the wireless forum who i know will solve most problems instantly (or
quicker) came here and helped–yeah Larry!
