Hi people ,
I have recently been looking at crossing over to a 64bit linux system to run Sidefx Houdini. As you can imagine I more interested in Houdini than learning vast amounts on linux so I am looking for a painless way of getting set up.
I have recently had a tryout with Ubuntu and found it to be a utter pain with my hardware being unable to install and get working drivers and ethernt connections not working ,overall quite fustrating.
I have a asus p5n32-e sli motherboard with a nvidia chipset.Geforce 9600gt 512mg card and duel flat panel monitors.
Will Opensuse work out of the box with my hardware ? and without in depth technical knowledge.
Thanks for the hardware list, very interesting. I am very surprised my Geforce 9600gt is not listed in the graphics cards. This is a card sold by the millions.

Probably marked “System requirements: Microsoft Windows” on the box.
I would check the latest nvidia driver package for your card (Linux x64 (AMD64/EM64T) Dispay Driver). I would have thought that the latest drivers have support for this card as they are created by nvidia. You can add the nvidia repository to openSUSE using yast.
(I have had a look at the hardware page for video cards and would have thought that it is a little out of date as there is no mention of OS11.0 compatability for any of the cards on there - I am running an 8600GT perfectly fine using the nvidia drivers)
