new to suse

hi guys sorry if this is in the wrong place i am really new to suse i have just installed tumbleweed and everything seems to work, but i cant play media on Facebook you tube works it just seems to be Facebook at the minute, i am brand new to this so if somebody can help me and tell me what to do in plain easy to understand idiot proof English i would appreciate it

Hi, welcome,

You may probably need the Packman repo. Go YaST - Software - Software repositories - Add - Community repos - Packman. Trust the key when prompted for.
Next, open a terminal window, and do


zypper lr

and remember the index number of the Packman repo
Next do


sudo zypper inr && zypper dup --from "FOUND_INDEX_NUMBER" --allow-vendor-change

EDIT added --allow-vendor-change since that’s needed for the switch to Packman packages

Although you can reference the repo by its index number, actually you can reference using anything that identifies the repo uniquely including the repo name which would always be known if you used a standard way of adding the repo (like using YaST)

If you haven’t done so already, you should follow the instructions in the stickies for this Multimedia Forum for installing codecs.

thanks i done all that and still no joy i am at my wits end now everything else went quite well on install and i never had this problem with Ubuntu, i look at the sticky part for multimeda and its quite hard to understand really am at a loss now

You might need to install “chromium-ffmpeg-extra”, if it is not already installed.

Since this is Tumbleweed, the following is the sticky you should use

The first zypper command installs the Pacman repo which you seem to already have done.
The second zypper command adds the libdvdcss repository, which AFAIK is only for packages supporting DVD writer applications
The third zypper command refreshes how your system reads your configured repositories which is necessary after you’ve added new repos.
The fourth zypper command “For General Use” is typically very important because it installs the most commonly required packages to view and play video and audio for almost all applications.
