new to linux and installing 11.2

Hi I’m new to linux and am planning on installing 11.2 (already DL and burned on a dvd) on a second partition on my laptop. last week vista gave me the blue screen of death so i now have xp on the first partition.

Wondering If there is anything I need to know prior to installing and if there are any other drivers, files or apps I will need to DL (wireless for instance) before I get started as I would not be too excited about jumping back and forth between OS’s for drivers.

Also wondering if there are any compatibility issues I should particularly look out for and get fixed as well as any other general information I might need.

Comp: (believe this is right I am not near this comp at the moment)
Dell Inspiron 1525
T5550 core 2 1.83GHz
intel express 965 chipset
3 gig ram
intel wireless 4965AGN

thanks for the help

Do you have access to a wired Internet connection. If so no you don’t need anything else. I’d advise to install while plugged to the wired connection. You may or may not have wireless working during/after the install. If you have wired it pretty much just works and you can download what you need as you see that you need it after the install.

11.2 Slideshow Images - Windows Live

Backup files that are important and defrag windows before installing

Make sure you burn the .iso slow
and do the media check, first picture in the slideshow above

Might want to have in your tool chest the: Novell Documentation for OpenSUSE 11.2, including Release Notes.

OpenSUSE hardware compatibility list.

I often see questions in the forums regarding will this work on my hardware. That question can probably be answered with 80% certainty. But could the user gain confidence if they tried the Live CD? This would go for any distribution that provides a Live CD. Just wondering if that would help.

Best move you ever made. Congratz!!!

I made the switch after the second or third “blue screen of death” from wIndow$ 95.
(yes, I had some hair back then.)
Now that you have downloaded Linux, remember you are required to mail in your registration check (for every install) to the Linux Gods.
And remember to send a copy to your computer manufacturer so they can send in their percentage.

Of course the other legal alternative is NOT To pay, enjoy it, learn it, use it and grow with it.

Life is full of choices.

Welcome to Linux!

Rr

you can also try the live (but slower) CD to check hw compatibility
