After using Suse for a week now the one thing that impresses me the most is picture quality. Text and graphics alike seem to have a superior crispness compared to other distros. I’ve been defaulting to Fedora for the last couple of years and now considering changing to Suse default.
I’ve had the usual difficulties getting familiar with a new system but, all in all am quite impressed.
Regards all, Allan
I too find this to be true, yet I read many trying to change font, import M$ stuff and use other features to try and improve it.
Yes, it looks GREAT out of the box!
Enjoy
i would absoulutely agree. even the font rendering openoffice.org is pretty awesome.
Well, openSUSE config files are though to made M$ fonts easily usable like the default ones.
See /etc/fonts/suse-post-user.conf. If they are available. the default openSUSE fonts are Times New Roman and Arial… and they are specially treated to disable antialias and freetype autohint.
I install the MS fonts, set /etc/sysconfig/fonts-config:BYTECODE_BW_MAX_PIXEL to 18, /etc/sysconfig/fonts-config:EMBEDDED_BITMAPS_LANGUAGES to an empty string and I make sure the DPI is set to the real value.
