I do not know where to ask this question. DON’T BE MAD
Small Question about (HP LaserJet Pro MFP M28-M31)
I had to purchase a new printer recently. I am having trouble finding the drivers for that printer. I can’t even find anything close. I have found my drivers in the past for older printers. If I name the printer, I am curious if someone else has had the problem. What was your solution.
Hi
Is that the exact model? The Leap 15.2 hplip version should work according to: https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/supported_devices/index
That is my model and I am 15.2. I am not finding my printer
Shifting to the Hardware forum.
Hi
That is the series M28 to M31, if you look at the following link, there is a ‘Model name’ number across the top: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05853582.pdf
Which one is it, likely on the label(s) somewhere?
More info is needed.
-
How is the printer connected? (USB or network)
-
How are you trying to discover/configure your printer?
hp-setup
- If configuring for a network-connected printer, make sure that the firewall is not impacting the discovery process.
printer is connected by usb
I was using yast2/printer config
Try using ‘hp-setup’ directly, and report back.
I think a bit more info is needed.
When I click on add printer, yast will do it’s thing and find the make/model of my printer. but then i click on find more and about 100 printers is listed but mine is not there.
I would be a happy camper If I could just use the disk.
Not sure what you mean here? Did you run the hp-setup utility?
I installed the new version of hplip
And the printer configuration completed successfully?
I installed the new version of hplip
So post:
zypper se -si hplip
zypper lr -d
Install the hp supplied drivers that are available on opensuse repos through yast software:
hplip
hplip-hpijs, and
hplip-sane (for scanner)
Install from std repos. I would do a reboot but might not be necessary.
Then go to yast - printer to configure your printer. Note that there is a special (button) flag to go through an hp setup in yast - printer. Use that setup mode.
Run a sample test page. Hope it all works. I have hp laserjet pro working fine. Post again if there is some issue.

I would like to jump back in here and ask a few more questions. My printer is working perfect, thank you very much. My scanner however is not so much. Every time I try to scan a document I get a popup telling me that I need a HP plug-in. When I try to get that plug-in, I cant get very far.
I did download the 3 files that you told me to download.
Does using ‘hp-plugin’ (CLI utility) work successfully for you?
