But seriously… right now the latest kernel at the repositories is 2.6.25.16 while the latest (173.14.12) nVidia driver goes for kernel 2.6.25.11. I’d say the intuitive action to take with YaST is to install all latest drivers but in this case you’ll be logging into a command line after boot because your graphics drive only works with an older kernel. Took me quite a few tries before I figured this out - would have liked a hint somewhere early in the procedure.
Yeah, I agree. Ideally, YAST should have noticed the difference between your kernel version and the Nvidia display driver version and not even let you install it.
I’m gonna stick with “the hard way” of running the Nvidia installer, because even though it’s a still a pain to re-run it after a kernel update, at least you know the installer will be able to build you a driver that will work.
