Anyone tried the driver? There is no changelog for this one.
Is it stable?:\
I’m asking because i haven’t tried that one (most of them are beta releases what hasn’t been mentioned) thus the problems with stability.
kde4.2.1 running on nvidia 185.13 rock stable
The Cube is quicker on screen rotating it is more fluent
so yes 185.13 is ok to use
After that recommendation i’ll check it
Well i must admit this one is stable, plasma didn’t crash yet so it’s quite safe to use. Even if it’s beta
Edit: Well plasma crashed again:) Still looking for reason;)
I have been running it since an hour after it’s release.
Has bun running perfectly fine for me.
I agree, it’s stable. Looks like plasma problem is unrelated:)
Before recommending this driver as a “new release” you should read the official announcements.
Current NVIDIA Linux graphics driver releases - nV News Forums
What are you talking about?
The official announcements on that site are crystal clear about “stable”, “prerelease” or “beta”.
Well you proved what i am saying so what is the problem? Every driver release after 180.29 is either prerelease or beta (doesn’t matter as they still have BUGs which nVidia ignores and only includes new features).
What it means to You “pre-release” ? It is not final so it is not considered stable then we can call it beta and since on the starting screen You see BIG RED Beta then i say it is Beta.
P.S. On the forum it may be saying what is beta and what is not. But there was somewhere a thread that a guy from nVidia admitted to have made a mistake by not calling these releases a Beta. As You can see he made a post to clarify it AFTER Betas were published.
The only stable drivers are the ones you get from the official Nvidia site.
Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers
All drivers after 180.29 were not available directly from there, so what gives you the idea they were “stable”?
You still get 180.29 when searching for the latest driver there, if you want something else, you explicitly have to choose “Beta or Archived drivers” (and even then you don’t get something newer at this time).
Many people choose the ftp site not the website itself. I don’t know what you want to prove now?? Any point in Your comments?
Just don’t post “new driver” when it’s beta or inform yourself before posting.
You obviously did not and other users will use a beta driver without knowing.
Ekhem, to some extent i am right that it is a new driver. New users will stick with the rpm package, more advanced users will check it. I don’t see any problems with my thread. They can always ask if it is normal driver and since my first post was saying if someone used this driver then again i see no problem with that. Lets just end this discussion.
FOE EVERYONE ELSE, THIS IS A BETA DRIVER, INSTALL ON YOUR OWN RISK.
This latest driver (ver 185.13) is not available in the nVidia Repo (http://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/11.1/) ?
Yes, of course not.
What is the address for the FTP??? I forgot it… So far I wasn’t successful with unrealeased(or even the ones which HAVE been released) nVidia packages but I’ll give it a try…
I had to reinstall openSuSE yesterday 'cause of 180.29. Even after install 180.35 or 180.27, my graphical envorinment wouldn’t load and the error said that my kernel module was still 180.29!!!
FTP ADDRESS:
This means you have a mix of remains of old driver versions. You could have removed them by hand, but I see you decided for a new install days ago. If you still need the info for a next time, start a new post
