Good download and burn. 11.3 Live CD freezes after kernel install to blank black screen.
Tried CD on another PC and assured it is good. Have had suse on previous PC’s
and did little goggling and tried nomodeset, but that is about all.
Just to see I picked another distro at random Mint 10 same results. So must be something on this Toshiba. No help from Toshiba forum but a lot of Linux problems.
Any suggestions
Video chip?
In addition to providing detail on your video chip and your laptop model #, can you also advise if ‘safesettings’ boot worked ? (or if you finished an install then did the ‘failsafe’ settings work) ?
FYI: We have two identical Toshiba x205 laptops that we’ve run 11.0, 11.1, 11.2 and 11.4 on without any major difficulty, but I’ve never been able to get 11.3 to run on either one despite a considerable amount of time wasted trying many, many of the suggestions offered on these and other forums. I’ve also heard from a couple of other Toshiba owners with similar tales of woe with 11.3. Perhaps you’d have better luck with 11.4. I’m typing this from one of those x205s that never would boot with 11.3, and it’s been running 11.4 with only minor issues (sound, easily solved) ever since M5.
I too would like to know your model #, and the video chip if you know it.
While I will endeavor to provide you whatever you need I in some instances will need to know how get it. this is a L675D and if the video chip info was not in previous post please advise aside from goggling which I did. I have no problem downloading and burning 11.4 (that I know how to do)lol! I just hope you all have the patience and
thanks
Thats a Toshiba L675D ? … there are many posts on the internet about users having problems with Linux with this model laptop. Graphic hardware is unclear, as many laptop companies will provide a choice of graphics in a laptop. Possibly your laptop has ATI® Mobility Radeon™ HD 4250, and possibly other hardware. YOU must tell us. We can’t reliably guess at this.
In addition to trying “nomodeset” , did you try “Safesettings” and/or “failsafe” as suggested. There are also other kernel boot options (F3 ?? selection in liveCD) that you could try. I’ve read a suggestion to a Toshiba L675 user to try boot code: acpi=off’
per Toshiba: the specs for this model are
PROCESSOR*
AMD Athlon™ II Dual-Core Mobile Processor P320
GRAPHICS ENGINE*
ATI® Mobility Radeon™ HD 4250
GRAPHICS MEMORY*
256MB-1405MB dynamically allocated shared graphics memory
Your hardware and mine are very different, so this may not be significant, but I can share that I had to use acpi=off, edd=off, pci=noacpi in order to boot our x205 models with 11.0 - 11.2 (not with 11.4 though)
acpi=off indeed worked, but I aborted just to be on safe side until I ask one additional question.
Alert or msg. said bootloader is installed on a partition that does not lie entirely below 128GB.
May not boot.

In older machines, the BIOS may not be able to access disk above that 128 GB
boundary, thus the warning is printed. With a new machine, that condition is
very unlikely unless the BIOS is severely brain dead. Ignore the warning.
In general, warnings can be ignored. Errors should be investigated.
SOLVED
Thanks to all

To help someone else that might have this problem, what was the solution?
