New member!

Hi all,

I’m a completely new Linux user and very exciting to join opensuse!rotfl! I was a long time Windows user (errr don’t want to talk about it anymore) and switched to Mac for several years now and couldn’t be happier. Now since I don’t need Windows anymore I installed opensuse on my old Sony laptop.

The installation was very easy, and after boot I started updating the system (packages?) right away. However during the process it seemed to be stuck because the downloading bar stopped moving for several minutes or so, so I made the terrible decision to abort it and reboot. Bad idea! The system won’t boot and it asked me to talk to my administrator…:sarcastic: Anyway I don’t think that’s a big problem I’m just gonna reinstalled the system again today.

But only thing I do realize is that the windows don’t have maximize/minimize button? And they are all collapsed on the status bar? Maybe I need to start with a manual or something…

What you’ll want to do is post a question in the relevant forum - this
one is just for general-chit-chat, so not a place to ask for help, but
rather just a place to chat. Think of it as the water cooler, or talking
to a neighbour over the back fence.

For installation questions, you’ll want the install/boot/login forum.
Make sure you specify the version of openSUSE you’re working with and
anything relevant to your configuration - hardware in use is often useful
with installation issues. The less those of us who help out have to ask
for, the quicker you’ll be up and running.

… yes, and you will find that this is a very pleasant and helpfull forum with lots of friendly openSUSE gurus who really enjoy helping out a newcomer (or anyone else, for that matter.).

Welcome aboard!

Could be you should tell us if you were using Gnome or KDE?
It’s possible from what you describe it was Gnome.
Sony FYI: are not known for compatibility, but you may be lucky.

I’m replying from openSUSE on my SONY! Everything seems to be working except for the webcam. This is really encouraging! rotfl! Yeah I will move my questions to other forums…
