New log messages about the nvme drive I had never seen since I bought the computer

Hi.

Tonight, these messages appeared all of a sudden:

3/6/25 10:22 PM|kernel|pcieport 10000:e0:1c.4: AER: Correctable error message received from 10000:e1:00.0
3/6/25 10:22 PM|kernel|nvme 10000:e1:00.0: PCIe Bus Error: severity=Correctable, type=Physical Layer, (Receiver ID)
3/6/25 10:22 PM|kernel|nvme 10000:e1:00.0: device [1344:5404] error status/mask=00000001/0000e000
3/6/25 10:22 PM|kernel|nvme 10000:e1:00.0: [ 0] RxErr

Could the new 6.13.5-1-default kernel that was installed a few days ago be responsible?

What are they exactly?

p.s. I checked the nvme drive with smartctl and there were absolutely no errors.

You can boot an old kernel and check if it is indeed a kernel regression.

Also nvme degrade over time so I would not not be surprised if that is what happened, people are often too eager to see pattern that are not there.

The error is about PCIe connection, not about SSD flash medium. Also, those errors are usually sporadic so it is rather difficult to confirm that different kernel version fixes it.

I would reseat NVMe in any case, sometimes this cleans up contacts.

As always with such errors, it can be device (NVMe) and it can be the connector or it can be the PCIe switch to which this connector leads.

Unless these errors happen very often I would not worry.

@marel and @arvidjaar

The system is a quite reputable two year old All-In-One system that cannot be opened so easily in order for me to gain access to the parts inside. I think it’s quite strange for a two year old system to have an nvme that’s degrading already. Nothing is impossible though. Since these messages have appeared only once so far, I’ll follow @arvidjaar 's suggestion and see if they appear again.

There is one thing that crossed my mind though, since I’m living in a provincial area and I have found bugs crawling around. Can bugs that are possibly living or moving inside the computer cause such problems? Have you ever come across anything like that?

Thank you.

Yes, it is possible.
Another option: electric power. Use UPS.

Also check drive cooling.
