New Log-in Screen? Can no longer log-in

My other laptop has been happily running OpenSuse 11 for some time now, but when I went to switch it on today it has a different log-in screen (showing both user-name and password boxes together, along with my name on the left?) but it won’t let me log in. It just closes the screen, a brief flash of the CLI wizzing by, the NVidia flash screen, then back to the log-in screen.

If I try double-clicking on my name that appears on the left of the screen (this is new), it just states invalid log-in. But if I try and log-in via the console, it works first time no problems. So whats with this new log-in screen?

This laptop I am typing on now is my back-up (all working apart from the £%£$% legacy Nvidia drivers!) and although it has OSuse 11 as well, the new log-in screen has yet to appear. Is it a recent update, and how can it be fixed?

Thanks in advance,

Sounds like the /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager info has changed from gdm
to kdm. I would also checkout /etc/sysconfig/windowmanager as well.
Both files are well documented as to what all the options are.
