I have just installed LEAP 42.1 with Gnome desktop on a new machine. I used network install and then allowed the updates to run. Never used Gnome before so very much a beginner but I thought I would use Yast to install my favourite software. Tried to start yast using the root password I set up during the installation and kept getting failures. On closer inspection I find that the last letter of the root password is not accepted. The pw has 9 characters but I can only enter 8. Any ideas how I may fix this or set up a new root pw?

Is the correct keyboard selected?

open an ascii processor and type in your password, do you see what is expected?
Hi all,
Solved. New keyboard and there was a plastic moulding fault which connected x and alt keys intermittently. Now all OK thanks.
