Today I started a new install of Leap 42.3, to replace Leap 42.2. I downloaded the network file, copied it to a USB stick and booted from the USB stick to start the installation.
The graphical installation program started normally. On the first screen I agreed with the license agreement, the second screen started with an investigation of my system. That worked fine, until the part ‘Searching system files’ (the progress bar was at 75%). At that moment nothing happened anymore, without any error message. I waited for at least 20 minutes, but nothing happened.
Does anyone has an idea what is going wrong, and how to solve this problem?
(When having to re-install after problems with 42.2, my system does that on a regular basis - I click on abort, and it seems to give it a kick up the backside and re-commences the install process)
I’m not even getting that far!
Boots from the DVD okay, and I change the resolution to 1920x1080, and the language to English UK (both upgrade and installation have tried both). Seems to then read the DVD okay and runs through the initial text of the install - but then my monitor goes black and displays the message “no signal”
I’ve tried with the text install as well, and various different resolutions, absolutely nothing. No hardware has been changed since installing leap 42.2, and thankfully that is still working.
Any ideas? I can post my specs separately if anyone wants the info (self built system so I know exactly what is in the internals).
Same problem. Bittorrented 42.3 to a USB stick, installed just fine to one T61 Thinkpad, tried an install on another T61 Thinkpad and got stuck at the green bar. Units are very similar: both have Intel GPUs, the machine where the install worked has 2gb RAM, the one that fails has 8gb. Both units have Samsung 850 SSDs.
Hmmm, okay swapping in a platter style hard drive allows install to proceed normally. Looks like opensuse 42.3 does not like this SSD. I’ve just checked, it is a Samsung 840, 250gb purchased in 2013. It has been running fine, currently has openSuse 42.2 on it. Suggestions?
I was trying to upgrade, but this was not working and had to with a full install instead. Wiped the drive and started from scratch.
Used “nomodeset” as an install parameter.
Once these steps where taken, the install ran through completely and installed no problem - skipped straight through the “search for system files” step no problem.
Now up and running without a hitch.
But, this was just what worked for me as Opensuse is not used as my primary system so I did not have a lot of files to back-up or restore so I had no qualms about wiping the system to do a clean install.
Still no luck. Pressing the “ESC” key shows what appears to be the sticking driver, "Intel pro wireless 4965 AG or AGN (Kedros) network connection. Doing the “brokenmodules=iwl4965” has no effect. Just for grins, I inserted a USB stick with the openSuse 42.2 install disc image on it and was able to load all drivers and be in a position to reinstall the OS if desired. As mentioned earlier, swapping the Samsung SSD for a Travelstar SATA spinning HD allowed the 42.3 install to continue past where it was sticking with the Samsung SSD. This seems to be an issue with the Samsung SSD and 42.3.
I had the same problem when trying to boot on rescue mode or start a fresh install with ISO 42.3 because I already have btrfs partition and the filesystem is broken.
I’m attempting to install Leap 42.3 on a new computer. The process hangs with the initial green progress bar. When I press “esc” it says “loading drivers”, but provides no other information. I attempted to install the 42.2 version and the same problem occurs. Just indefinitely stuck while loading the drivers.
The computer is a HP Elitebook 850 G4 I7-7600 256 GB SSD. I had to switch the boot to Legacy in BIOS because it would otherwise not read the bootable USB. I used the same iso to boot the Leap 42.3 distro on a Virtualbox on a MacBook pro and it installed easily, so I know its a good iso.
Any ideas on how to get opensuse installed on my new computer?! Help!
You would be better off to start your own new thread than to tag your question onto the end of an old thread. Many helpers here might just skip over this.
When you do so, let us know if you tried the nomodeset option, and any other options you tried.
And, more information needed, was this before you saw any Grub messages or menus? Or after?
My problem is solved. I guess I was too impatient. I left the computer on overnight and this am it had moved on to the user agreement screen. Leap is now successfully installed. I’m now sure why it took so long to get past the loading of the drivers, but its all good now.
