new install of 15.3, unable to access yast2

I made a new install of leap 15.3 on my system (from leap 15.2). I chose the GNOME desktop version. At first sight, the system looks to work fine.

However, I encountered two problems.

First problem:
I am unable to open YAST2 and the programs that are part of it (software repositories, software management). I see the window to give the root password, but after I entered the password I only see an empty, transparent frame. So I can not manage my system.

When I try to open YAST2 via the terminal, I get an error message:
QStandardPaths: runtime directory ‘/run/user/1001’ is not owned by UID 0, but a directory permissions 0700 owned by UID 1001 GID 100
So it looks like a problem with permissions.
However, I can open YAST in the terminal.

Second problem:
When I open the software updater, it says there are two updates (libreoffice). When I choose to install the updates, it gives an error:
patch:SUSE-2021-1200-1.noarch is in conflict met libreofficekit.x86_64 < 7.1.2.2-13.15.1 die geleverd is door libreofficekit-7.1.2.2-2.3.x86_64
patch:SUSE-2021-1569-1.noarch is in conflict met libreoffice-writer.x86_64 < 7.1.3.2-13.18.3 die geleverd is door libreoffice-writer-7.1.2.2-2.3.x86_64
I am surprised by these conflicts on a newly installed system.

Has anyone an idea how I can solve these problems?

I don’t normally use Gnome, so maybe a regular Gnome user can comment on that.

When I try to open YAST2 via the terminal, I get an error message:
QStandardPaths: runtime directory ‘/run/user/1001’ is not owned by UID 0, but a directory permissions 0700 owned by UID 1001 GID 100
So it looks like a problem with permissions.

You can ignore that message.

I suggest waiting for this to be cleared up before you do any updates. At least, that’s what I am doing.

Another user here just solved the same problem two days ago by switching Gnome from running in Wayland to running in Xorg.

@nrickert, @mrmazda, thank you for your quick replies and solutions.

I changed Gnome to running in Xorg and now everything works fine. That solved my first problem.

Regarding my second problem, I now see it’s a known problem and I will wait till it will be fixed.

Thank you for your support!
