New install, cant install OpenOffice

Thanks in advance for the help.

I have a new install of 15.4. Downloaded OpenOffice, but can’t install it.
I have checked permissions for the files and directory, it is set as my name and users group.

In YaST software manager the following error shows.

Cannot access installation media
dir:/data2/Downloads
downloads (Medium 1).
Check whether the directory is accessible.

dir:/data2/Downloads

File './OpenOffice_en-US/RPMS/openoffice-ure-4.1.10-9807.x86_64.rpm' not found on medium 'dir:/data2/Downloads'

Any help is appreciated

Is file actually present there?

ls -lR /data/Downloads/

Is there a reason why you don’t install it from the online repositories?

There are no Openoffice repositorys as Openoffice got obsoleted by Libreoffice (for openSuse).

Additionally you seem to have a typo in your local repo setup:

File ‘./OpenOffice_en-US/RPMS/openoffice-ure-4.1.10-9807.x86_64.rpm’ not found on medium ‘dir:/data2/Downloads’

You have a dot in front of your filepath. Shouldn’t be there. It seems that you set up your local repository (on your hdd/ssd) with the wrong pointers/filepath.

It is set as a Local Directory, Plain RPM Directory
/data2/Downloads
Enabled, Keep Downloaded Packages

It has always worked in the past.
I am going back to the Apache OpenOffice site and have found specific Linux. Notes. I will work through those and reply back.
thanks.

Yep, and thats wrong. It should be in your case:

Local Directory
Plain RPM Directory
/data2/Downloads/OpenOffice_en-US/RPMS
Enabled^
Keep Downloaded Packages

Yep, and thats wrong. It should be in your case:

Local Directory
/data2/Downloads/OpenOffice_en-US/RPMS

Keep Downloaded Packages

Restart yast-software after you have done this.

Thank you for the help. I was not able to get zypper or YaST to work for this issue.

Using the instructions from Apache https://www.openoffice.org/download/common/instructions.html#linux , finally did install with rpm

The openoffice4.1.12-suse-menus wouldn’t install via zypper, rpm or YaST.
The error showed up as:

#### YaST2 conflicts list - generated 2022-07-17 16:11:44 ####

nothing provides '/etc/SuSE-release' needed by the to be installed openoffice4.1.12-suse-menus-4.1.12-9809.noarch

     ] do not install openoffice4.1.12-suse-menus-4.1.12-9809.noarch

] break openoffice4.1.12-suse-menus-4.1.12-9809.noarch by ignoring some of its dependencies

I forced it via YaST to install broken. It did install, and the apps are in the menu, but without icons.
This kind of bites, but at least it is working.

Any solution to the that minor issue? Is there a menu editor or another way to modify the menu?

I am using LXQT on a fresh Leap 15.4 installation btw.

The menu-rpm are also in a sub directory or the RPMS directory. Simply install them from there…

I was able to locate the icons. All were installed in /opt as normal. The problem is that the system doesn’t see them. I did find that the gnome menu editor is what LXQT uses, so with that installed I have the menu icons.

The next challenge is how to link the mimetype icons.

Icons are searched for in $XDG_DATA_DIRS/icons and $XDG_DATA_DIRS by default does not include /opt.
