new Google Maps

what are other users experience with the new Google Maps (if you have switched)?

For me - in Firefox it doesn’t work particularly well. There is terrible font rendering, streetview is completely broken and it is slow.
Chromium (with and without the pepperflash plugin from packman) crashes completely.
Chrome works perfectly for everything
Firefox in Windows (dual boot same machine) works perfectly.

all these screenshots are from the same map location

I’m running openSUSE 12.2 64 with Intel GMA X4500 video

I’m gonna try out a 12.3 LiveCD later and see if there is any difference.

i guess there will be a difference, because i think something is
wrong with your firefox…i say because on my machine, Googlemaps
looks almost identical on firefox (21.0-75.2) as on chrome, chromium
and Opera…

assumming you also have the latest firefox installed (and not some
newer, unstable version!): try to start firefox without any
extensions or themes by copy/paste this command into a terminal

firefox -safe-mode

does that help? if not, try using YaST to add a new testUser, log out
and then back in as the newTest user and try firefox there. is that
better?

if either of those test results in a better google map then the
firefox in your home is somehow damaged (maybe by on of the
extensions you have added or some firefox setting got munged)…

SORRY…disregard my previous post! i failed to read NEW and IF YOU
HAVE SWITCHED…

i have not switched…perhaps as an early adopter of the new map you
should look for the place on Google (maybe the place is mentioned
in your invitation email…or on the new map page, look all the way
down at the bottom for a “Help” link) where you ask your question of
the map developers…maybe they need your bug report so they can
fix the problem you are seeing…

or, if you make those tries i mentioned and either of them works,
STILL they may need to know that their new map doesn’t like what it
finds in a fully functional firefox with the old map, in Linux…

that way they can give it a try and find the problem…and FIX it.

It’s not really something that bothers me too much at this stage because as you said - early adopter.
There are workarounds that I’m happy to use at the moment.
I’m just curious as to what other openSUSE users are seeing if they are also early adopters.
Googling I see there are some ubuntu users having trouble while others are OK.

tried out the KDE live disc for 12.3 and the new google maps works fine on my system in Firefox.

I’ve been putting off an upgrade from 12.2 to 12.3 so this seemed like a good time to go ahead and do it.
So after the update the new maps works just fine in Firefox - so my guess is an update for intel video in the newer kernel is what fixed it up (perhaps).

Haven’t tested chromium yet.

edit: Chromium is still crashing but I expect this will probably be fixed up in one of the frequent updates

Works just fine here.
openSuSE 12.3, with both, FF21 and FF 22 beta
