For comparison and compatibility always check board specifications:
8+4 CPU power (EPS12V) is not needed for a low-powered CPUs, such as Ryzen with graphics.
8 pin or even 4 pin connectors are good enough.
Graphic card may require additional power (6 pin, 8 pin, 6+2 pin connectors).
What do you think about this config?
AMD Ryzen 3 3200G (3.6 GHz) - Version bulk 109.99 €
ASRock X570 Pro4 194.99 €
DDR4 Corsair Vengeance LPX Noir - 32 Go (2 x 16 Go) 3200 MHz - CAS 16 194.99 €
Deepcool Z3 - 1.5 g 5.99 €
Total : 505.96 €
from this French site https://www.topachat.com
This is the best price I can find so far.
As Svyatko said, my old PSU should work again with the mobo.
The only issue to solve is the front panel USB in the case to update.
Edit: I’ll need to drill the metal bracket for the cooler to adapt to AM4 size.
The 3200G is fine too. I have 2 ASRock Pro boards and both are fine (Z97 and Z170). X570 is overkill unless you want to upgrade your processor. RAM is fine, although prices are up now. folks at memorypc.de have lots of configurations.
You may consider a new case such as the Corsair Carbide 200R. When upgrading last year I considered dumping the old hardware. But eventually I kept it and bought a new case and a power supply. Whatever is broken with yours a replacement could be easy. I once with a used main board for 11€ + 4 € shipping.
Unfortunately the chop do not ship to Ireland…
I looked a lot of online shop; No 3400G available at all, only some shifty sites sell it at €300+…
So, I’ll try with[size=2]AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 4650G. In https://www.alternate.de I got
AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 4650G, Prozessor € 199,90 MSI B550-A PRO, Mainboard € 124,90 Mushkin DIMM 32 GB DDR4-3200 Kit, Arbeitsspeicher € 132,90 ==> 3200 because this is the max for the cpu [see here](https://www.amd.com/fr/products/apu/amd-ryzen-5-pro-4650g) Summe € 457,70
What do you think about this config? I’ll use the old case, should be good for a while.
I need as well the thermal compound but I don’t find it in the site, what is the name, could you help?
Do you know the shop? If you have time could you check the shipping to Ireland, this is not easy for me with Germain language.
If you have other shop, I’ll try a quote.
Just I have looked at the memory compatibility. I can’t see Mushkin brand.
I’ll change to
AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 4650G, Prozessor € 199,90 MSI B550-A PRO, Mainboard € 124,90 G.Skill DIMM 32 GB DDR4-3200 Kit, Arbeitsspeicher € 159,90 Summe € 484,70
ASRock X570 officially supports Ryzen 1200, 1600, …
Asus X570 officially supports Ryzen 2200G, 2400G, …
Gigabyte X570 officially supports Ryzen 1200, 2200G, 2400G, …
B550 + 4650G (4xxxG) is a more balanced couple, but I dislike MSI.
Look at Gigabyte X570 UD or X570 GAMING X for low prices.
You may buy 2200G & 2400G on a second market.
I have doubts about branded memory, sometimes it is worser than simple green modules.
I’ll buy MSI long before ASRock. I’m typing this from my 24/7, 66 month old MSI refurb that cost me $45US.
That’s a reasonable configuration I would buy if availble. As resale AMD prices are up now I would wait until they go down again as they did last summer. If I needed the hardware badly I would consider Intel too.
My box refused to start 3 days ago, rebooting loop, no POST.
This is another version:
Konfigurations Übersicht AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 4650G, Prozessor € 199,90
ASUS PRIME B550-PLUS, Mainboard € 152,90
Zadak DIMM 32 GB DDR4-3200 Kit, Arbeitsspeicher € 155,90
Summe € 508,70
I have no clue about mobo brand, I am listening you.
Could you give me the words for “thermal compound/past for CPU” in Germain language. No way to get the site in English.
This is from this site https://www.alternate.de/ could you point me to the delivery fees ? I can’t see if they ship to Ireland.
I use Arctic Silver thermal paste here, clean surfaces with isopropyl alcohol and lint free cloth…
Thank you, I found the good Germain word; Wärmeleitpasten
These are very reasonable components. Thermal compound = Wärmeleitpaste. The registration form lists Ireland: https://www.alternate.de/customerAccountRegistration.xhtml
First I’d like to thank everybody who helped me in this thread. Unfortunately this went bad.
In this page that I got 2 days ago, you can see that the item is in stock but I didn’t notice because in German, under this text Alternate says I can’t order.
I tried to get the both CPU 3400G or 4650G in Europe but only few sellers have it at a rip off price.
I have another old computer that my wife use, I’ll share it with her. I’ll wait few months, hopefully the market will calm down.
Thank you all, see you for other adventures.
To pass the time until then, why not open up the power supply. It very well could be obvious that’s where your death occurred. Visit http://www.badcaps.net/ for details what to look for.
Carey shows you how to diagnose and repair a PC that is completely dead, and explains every step along the way, all within this 22 minute video. Enjoy!
I have some experience with bad capacity. Around 10-13 years ago I fixed some Dell 15"-17" monitors that had opened at top capacities.
I followed you advice, opened the PSU, removed dust (just a bit) and had a look at components. Nothing suspicious.
I checked the copper side and re-solder uncertain 3 pins. No luck, same issue. I tested again voltages, they look OK.
Thank you karlmistelberger, I’ll have a look.
Choose delivery country = Ireland & language = english.
Consider LGA 1200:
With Intel DG1 you will get fully blue rig.
Or wait for a CPUs with builtin UHD 730 - 750. Right now they are cost too much: https://www.computeruniverse.net/en/c/hardware-components/processors-cpus?refinementList[facets.ProzessorSockel.values]=Sockel%201200&refinementList[facets.integrierteGrafik.values]=Intel®%20UHD%20Graphics%20750
Core i5 will be available with UHD 730 - 750.
AMD APUs are good, but not with that prices.
Prices in Russia:
Athlon 3000G & Athlon 200GE: $60-$75
Ryzen 3 3200G, Ryzen 3 PRO 3200G, Ryzen 5 3350G: $125-$175
Ryzen 3 PRO 4350G: $175-$220
Intel Core i5-10400: $180-$200
UHD 750 ~ 0.6-0.7 Vega 8.
Asus mobos imho are the best, but with the highest prices.
Old stuff: here.
AMD hardware is currently out of stock, but semiconductor shortage could be a big problem for the next years: https://www.theregister.com/2021/04/02/tsmc_fab_investment/ If one of my machines passed away I would consider vintage silicon: an i5 socket 1200 cpu such as the 10600K, more: https://www.mindfactory.de/Hardware/Prozessoren+(CPU)/INTEL+Desktop/Sockel+1200.html/11/18
Reading https://www.theregister.com/2021/04/02/tsmc_fab_investment/ - plentiful government investment into semiconductor fabs because big guys in USA & EU afraid of power concentration in Asia.
The federal government appears to be ready to pay to shift the center of chip-making gravity to more accurately reflect US interests. But other countries and foreign competitors have their own ideas about where chips should be made.
Many outcries to force customers spending their money for overpriced unneeded junk.
Just wait, get into repairing old goods, etc. Ask yourself: do you really need this?
