New ATI video driver

My computer specifications are
AMD 64 bit processor
ATI radeon HD 3200 Integrated Video

I installed the latest ATI driver from the openSUSE website. Since then, whenever I scroll in web browser or any page where scrolling is needed, the page drags slowly up or down, doesn’t scroll smoothly.

Am I not doing something right?

Post the results of:

#glxinfo | grep direct

I suspect that the driver is not properly installed or enabled.

This is the output of the command: glxgears | grep direct

X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 143 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 19 (X_GLXQueryServerString)
Serial number of failed request: 12
Current serial number in output stream: 12

Hi,

I also had problems with another ATI adapter. What I did was:

  1. I downloaded the propietary driver from the website of ATI.
  2. I ran the script.
  3. When I was asked I selected “Custom”.
  4. When I was asked I selected “Build RPM”
  5. That RPM I installed with Yast.

That resolved my problems and now the system (Suse 11.1) starts and runs faster. I would give it a shot in your case.

What script did you run ? Is it sh./ati-driver-installer-9.2-x86.x86_64.run ?

Hi,

Yes, that’s it.

Bye

Erik

When I run the script, under “custom”, a list of the Linux Operating Systems comes up with RedHat, Suse and other. I did not see a ‘Build RPM’.

Where in the process do you get the Build RPM option.

If you choose a distribution (Red Hat or Suse) the corresponding rpm will be built.
