NetworkManager

[using KDE4.1.1 with knetworkmanager]
I’ve been searching around, but haven’t found a solution to my problem:

Is it possible to stay connected to a network (WiFI/LAN) when logging out? I hate the fact that when logging out/in, knetworkmanager has to reastablish a connection, or when you switch to runlevel 3, the connection drops (and wifi is no fun in runlevel 3…).

Ditto here!!!

If you convert your network control to the traditional ifup rather
than NM, it will connect while booting and stay up even when you log
out. Of course, configuration is very similar to what is needed for
run level 3.

Isn’t there another way? As soon as you go someplace with your laptop and want to connect with a wireless accesspoint the networkmanager is handy when setting up a connection. Switching from ifup/down to networkmanager when needed (and back again) is cumbersome, as is connecting to a network with YaST again and again.

Even in windows it was always possible to retain connections with some reghacks; I’d figure that this would be something people would really like to see in a networkmanager…just thought I must have missed some option :?

edit: could a moderator please edit the thread title to somethig more fitting; sorry, just realised this title isn’t really that ‘elaborate’…
