networkmanager, VPN enable needs root password

Hallo Community,

I use networkmanger and set 2 VPN Connections to be used “for all users”. Login credentials (password) are stored. After Network connection the user should be able to choose (enable one of them), however connecting to a VPN always pops up the request for the admin password. Is there a way to simplify this e.g. add the user to a VPN group, to enable “inexperienced users” to use the VPN without giving them root credentials?

I thin I found something in the past, but are not able to recover it by a search.

Thank You for tipps.

You most likely ( I don’t use VPN ) have to also set “Store password unencrypted” in the IP4 settings. At least that’s the way it works for ‘normal’ wifi settings.

I think this did the Job! Store Password unencrypted, and the root request was gone. I wanted to avoid the users to know the password, but there seems no way to do this.

Thank you very much!

It’s already done for you, the permissions of the file where the connection data are stored are rw for root only.
