Finally I have found the networkmanager-kde4 and tried to install it on my opensuse 11.0 64 bit box with kde4 from the unstable/Opensuse11.0 branch. funny enough NM-kde4 is present only in the unstable/opensuse_Factory branch.
So I got the rpm’s and installed them manually on my machine.
everything went fine there.
Now the problems.
when I add the widget in the system tray the icon is to big destroing the size.
the desktop plasmoid gives me an error message:
This object could not be created for the following reason:
Network Manager could not determine your conection status. Check that the networkmanager data engine is installed.
When I go in system setting to set a network. I add, I complete what I need in the first tab. In the IP address tab when I choose as method Manual and try to add the ip address nothing happens.
I had the same problem. Plus the KDE3 network manager ceased working. I ended up with the Gnome network manager applet (nm-applet).
In 11.1 Beta 3 the KDE3 network manager seems to work, a KDE4 version can’t be found in the default repos.
Same issue here. The networkmanager-kde4 plasmoid can display existing network connections but trying to create a new wireless connection is not possible. Even though I enter the key prompted for, it reports connection failed.
Currently, I have to regress to KDE3 networkmanager and that’s not a very happy thought as I’ve switched to KDE4 applications almost exclusively!
nm always had some problem or other in the past too. I could never use it as a stable application. Also, it does not work properly with different Profiles. I want to use Profiles because I am at different offices and home.
The kde4 NM plasmoid from 11.1 Factory works OK for me here (WPA wireless). It uses kwallet for the passkey.
You seem tyo be using the one from UNSTABLE, so I wouldn’t be too surprised if it is broken
In the Factory repos for 11.0 there was not the option for the KDE4 NM, I was told this was because 11.0’s network stack couldn’t support it.
Upgrading to KDE4.2 from the 11.1 factory repos gave me a working KDE4 NM plasmoid, and I removed the KDE3 nm. So far so good.
