NetworkManager GDbus error - with YaST no apper, firefox, thunderbird...

Hi again!

Have here a Dell Precision M6400 (4GB RAM) with a 3 month old Intel 80 GB SSD, openSuse 13.2 64bit freshly installed in December 2014 (root: ext4, rest: XFS  ).

Until yesterday everything was up and running, this morning chaos broke. Apparently Thunderbird was open over night and AOL email service was down for hours this morning, might be a simple coincidence, but…

The notebook uses the built-in NIC for internet (no wireless configured), via NetworkManager. In the morning the connection to the network was broken with a “GBbus error” and the computer was overall very slow in responding to any keyboard or mouse command.

I switched to YaST management of the NIC and was able to gain the usual IP (reserved on DHCP server), but access to local resources via SMB was veeeeerrryyy slow (takes minutes to open a folder on a local NAS). Ping to local and internet (even DNS) works.

Next thing: No Firefox and Thunderbird running, “undefined sympbl: PR_NewRWlock, Couldn’t load XPCOM” (same error with both applications).

(Have screenshots, but no way to upload them now…)

Apper fails with “Activation of org.freedesktop-Packagkit timed out”
Zypper can reach internet, as do Konquerer and YaSt.

Uninstalled Firefox and Thunderbird in YaST. Reinstalled. SAME error (can’t believe it, even now…). Changed from suse repository to mozilla, tried again, same error.

I gave up on this installation and will do a fresh install on a new HDD.

My question: Is there any malware for Linux (wine installed, so maybe even for Windows?) that can result in such symptoms?

Any info highly appreciated, many thanx in advance

rasputin

… am I too dull or is there no way to edit my own posts? :frowning:

PPPS: found it, but apparently only works for some minutes…

The hardware seems OK, as a fresh install on new HDD works fine. Only possibility on hardware side left: the Intel SSD…
