network windows xp to dual boot computer

I have a windows xp machine. I also have a dual boot (windows 7) and opensuse 11.4 machine. I wish to network between the two machines but I am having problems.
I can network the windows xp machine with the dual boot machine when running windows 7 with no problem.
I cannot network the windows xp machine with the dual boot machine when running opensuse 11.4. I’ve tried many things with samba and other network processes.

Some questions I have been thinking about. Do I need for the machine names for the dual boot machine to be the same whether on windows 7 or opensuse and make the one machine name part of windows workgroup? With different machine names should I try to add each machine name to the windowxs xp workgroup, essentially making the setup look like two machines where only one would be working at a time. This may be problem since they would have the same ip address?

Anyone have any ideas on this?

What ‘network processes’? FTP, SSH, SMTP, HTTP, NFS, … what? The procedure is different for each
one, so please specify.

Besides that, the name of the machine only matters for samba. It would probably work better if each
system of the double boot machine is different. Maybe even different IP, I’m not sure.
