When installing openSUSE from DVD, does installer actually have networking support?
Last time I tried installing Leap 42.3 -with ethernet cable plugged-, after all package copying process finished there was a step in the progress log saying “saving configuration” or somethig like that, and there were several packages being “downloaded”. Downloaded from where, internet or just DVD itself?
First time I installed Leap 42.3 I really thought it was internet, but when first logging in I realized there were quite several updates…

Yes, if you have a network cable plugged in then yes it will add the repos and use the online repos to do the install. Up in the top right there is a ‘Network Configuration’ link so you can preconfigure if you want to use wireless, set the hostname etc. It will only install the stuff it needs, so sometimes there maybe other updates after the install, maybe desktop environment related, updates turning up in the repo while your install was running… I normally just use the DVD for the install.
When you get to the actual install (after the warning that from now on the existing OS will be overwritten) you get to a screen with 3 tabs. The first one is slideshow, the second is details and there is a third one I never used. Go to the second one (Details) and you can see where the packages coming from. About 2-3 weeks ago it stated e.g. 2000 packages from medium DVD, approx 150 packages from one repo, approx 70 packages from a second and approx 10 packages from a third repo. Of course that depends as well what patterns you install and now there are quite a few more updates out. But you can watch (as you drink your coffee) which packages are installed in which sequence (quite boring - better to read…).
