OK, I’m afflicted with the same network problem that I had earlier wherein I reinstalled to overcome the difficulty because I did NOT know how to resolve the issue. I am wanting to explore the situation further to a hopeful resolution knowing that it is something in my configuration(s) that is causing this anomaly. The system shows evidence in not only the GUI with keyboard dropouts of characters when typing, but in the video playback from common websites. What I am seeing is a complete slow to a crawl then stopping of any playback at all, where shortly afterward the system will again snap to and perform correctly for another couple of seconds. Then it will slow to a crawl again and repeat the same behavior.
I am on 13.1 KDE 32-bit desktop machine with recent kernel update. Anyone have a suggestion as to where I might start chasing this problem down? Thanks!
Is this wireless or wired connection? If wireless, have you tried changing the AP frequency on the router? When you scan, are there other APs with similar signal levels operating on the same frequency perhaps?
If wired, there is a little monitoring utilit called iftop that can be installed for traffic monitoring.
iftop does for network usage what top(1) does for CPU usage. It listens to network traffic on a named interface and displays a table of current bandwidth usage by pairs of hosts. It is handy for explaining why the network links slow.
Wireless, but can become wired for testing. Home/Office setup with only one AP. I can try to change the frequency but there is another machine that I can use to test the wireless connection for testing, too.
I will search for iftop and attempt to use that for starters. Thanks for the advice.
