Hello,
Did a fresh install of 12.1 to replace 11.4. I can see a shared folder on my Windows 7 machine “Dolphin > Network > Samba Shares > workgroup > Windows7 machine > public folder”
Now for the fun(?) part, if I drag the icon for the shared folder to the Desktop I get the Plasma(?) widget asking what type of view I want, I select 'icon" and the cursor goes to the wait icon (arrow plus clock) and the system is totally frozen, I mean I have to power the machine off! And just to really **** me off, I changed the icon for that one folder and now it looks like ALL of the “generic” folder icons everywhere have changed to that icon.
Any body else seen this behavior? Where should I start looking, log file, Samba configuration, somewhere else?
This is just one of many problems I am having with 12.1, everything worked in 11.4
Thanks in advance for any help or guidance.
Thanks for the reply, but It’s not Samba I’m having a problem with. I can see and write files to the shared folder on the Windows machine from my Opensuse machine. I simply want to have an icon(shortcut) for that folder on my desktop and so far I cannot get it to appear. I probably should have asked this question on the KDE4 forums, I’m convinced that it is this clusterf*ck they call a GUI for KDE4 that is causing the problem.
My blog on SWAT shows you how to put an icon on your desktop to bring up the entire workgroup you have created. You can make that a single computer by appending its netbios name to the end of the workgroup name.
