Network settings / wicked after 20141216 snapshot

I updated to 20141216. I then rebooted.

Everything looked okay until I tried to use the network. I then discovered that I did not have a network connection.

Going into Yast Network Settings, the first thing I noticed was the network card was listed as “eth0”, and unconfigured. It was previously “eno1” and it was configured. The settings now call this “Ethernet Connection I217-LM”. I’m not sure what that is all about.

After configuring the network connection, I again have a network connection.

Looking in “/etc/sysconfig/network”, I notice that the file “ifcfg-eno1” is still there, but is being ignored.

I did not find anything obvious in the changes file, that would have led me to expect this. But perhaps it is this line:

- client: apply suse ifcfg alias label (bsc#907683)

Unlikely; it is about giving labels to infividual addresses. Your issue sounds like interface “persistent” names stopped to be applied; so you should look at udev changes in the first place.

My small headless home server, running Tumbleweed for the fun of it, is also offline since this update. Great fun, will have to attach keyboard and screen to it to get it running again. Basically looks like the network does not start at all.

I don’t complain, as I asked for trouble using Tumbleweed, however I think it’s really bad handicraft to push out updates which obviously change so much in the network settings that computers will no longer go online…
