Network scanner detection

I have openSuse 11.4 installed on my main computer with an Epson SX435W printer/scanner installed on a networked print server. This is working fine as a printer but isn’t detected as a scanner.

The drivers, iscan, were downloaded from Avasys and both printer and scanner drivers are installed on both machines. The scanner works locally on the print server. In Yast>>Scanner no scanners are detected by either net or epkowa drivers. Click ‘Other>>Scanning via network’ settings are Server:127.0.0.0/8,192.168.1.3, Client:192.168.1.3,localhost. Click ‘OK’ and no scanners are detected.

How can I enable the scanner?

Mike

You’ll need the iscan-network-nt package installed first

Have a read of this:

How do I set up and use the network plugin to scan via the network? | FAQ[Linux driver] | AVASYS CORPORATION

You can get what you need from here:

Thanks for the suggestion but I have already installed this package and edited the files. Still no scanner.

When I first read your opening post I must admit I though you were scanning to a network-attached device. I missed the bit about the print server.

Can you explain more about the print server? OS? Have you correctly configured the sane server?

Some potentially useful info:

The printer server runs Mageia and is accessed by any machine connected to the network. Both printing and scanning are working on the server and printing is OK over the network.

Having read your linked info about firewalls and scanning I think it would be better to carry on as I do now, scan on server then copy files over as the scanner is in the same room. I guess it’s not much more work than scanning over the network.

Thanks for your help.
