Hi all, i am new to the forum, and new
to linux technologies.

I have two machines, one with winXP and one
with openSuse. Both have Tomcat servlet container installed.
When i try to invoke a servlet that lies on the winXp tomcat installation (“192.165.1.101”) via tha local wireless network everything is fine, but when i try to do the same calling something from winXp to openSuse (“192.168.1.102”) i cannot do that.

I think it might be some security adjustments, which i don’t know how to do,

See if the firewall is running in openSUSE. Go to Yast and see firewall status under “Security and Users”.
Either you have to switch off the firewall and check it or you have to open the port (8080 for default tomcat installation) on the firewall.

Hi,

Check that tomcat is configured to start on the openSuSE server.

from a command line as root:

chkconfig --list | grep tomcat

It will show the runlevels that tomcat is configured to run at.

Then check that it is actually started and listening on port 8080 (default port) by issuing the following:

telnet localhost 8080

from the commmand prompt.

If you get a connection it is running, if not then you will need to start the tomcat daemon ‘/etc/init.d/tomcat5 start’
