Has anyone installed one of the “Cloud” servers such as the WD MyCloud or Buffalo Linkstation or Lenovo ix4?
I have 1 desktop running openSuse, 2 laptops running openSuse, 1 laptop running Windows 7, a printer and an assortment of wireless devices such as our iPhones and a Blueray player for NetFlix and the like.
Can the setup and administration of these devices be accomplished through a web browser interface? All the documentation mentions downloading software and references Windows or Mac. I called WD tech support and all they would say is that it supports Linux.
Can the drives be mounted on my system? I assume they can be mapped to my wife’s Windows laptop.
Does the device have any file locking capabilities?
I guess I’m asking if this is the device I’m looking for?
Although most people I know would probably prefer SSH (possibly passing X for a graphic display) when remoting into an openSUSE, you can also run WebYast http://en.opensuse.org/Portal:WebYaST

Almost certainly. But depends on details.

In general, *NIX by default doesn’t lock files. But, it is an option and your storage Vendor might run a gateway app that does lock files. So, YMMV.

Could be. Devil’s in the details. Details of exactly what the Vendor sets up and what type of access you want.
I thinking the Western Dig product would be pretty nice, but before investing that amount, I want more answers. I guess I’ll get back on the phone and pester until I get the info I need. Then decide.
I’ll put this post on hold for a while and get back to it when I have some answers and can either tell the forum that it works, or ask for more information here.
