Network Opensuse with Sony Bravia TV using NetworkManager

Hey all

I bought a Sony Bravia TV which has an ethernet port. As I connect wirelessly to the router downstairs (it is in a hard to reach place), I thought I would try to power the Bravia to the internet via my laptop.

So I connected it with a crossover cable but now I am lost as to how to actually share the internet to the TV

Remember: the laptop is connected to the internet via wifi

I would like to be able to use **NetworkManager **if at all possible. Ive tried switching it to ifup as I read a tutorial how to do what I want here openSUSE ICS: Internet Connection Sharing (Linux IP Masquerading) with Suse or Windows Servers but it disconnects the wireless and then I dont have internet.

Current connection information:

Auto eth0
ip address: 10.42.43.1
broadcast address: 10.42.43.255
subnetmask:255.255.255.0

wlan
ip address:192.168.0.100
broadcast address:192.168.0.255
subnetmask:255.255.255.0
default route: 192.168.0.1
primary dns:192.168.0.1

Ive set the ethernet connection as “shared to other computers” and set my Bravia to

Ip address: 10.42.43.2
Subnet mask: 225.225.225.0
Default Gateway: 10.42.43.1
Primary DNS: 10.42.43.1
Secondary DNS:10.42.43.2

And the Bravia’s Connection Results on screen, reads:

Cable Connection: OK
Local Access: OK
Internet Access: Failed

So I know Im close… I just need to figure out the last and , most important , step really! ( Internet Access: OKIE DOKIE

Many thanks

Hi try following this guide to do what You need.
How to share a wireless connection with others using Ethernet and Fedora - Fishpool

Best regards,
Greg

Thanks for that…close but no cigar…

Here’s what I get on the Bravia

Cable Connection: OK
Local Access: OK
Internet Access: Failed

I followed the same guide to connect my 360, and with the exception of a moderate nat when I test the connection to live it worked fine. One thing I noticed is that when I first turn my 360 on it won’t connect, but if I wait a few seconds and try again it works.

What cable did you use? was it a crossover ? Ive tried using both normal and crossover with the same results.

Just a normal cable, pretty much everything is auto-sensing anymore.

Does anyone know if I need to change any settings on my firewall?

Im using the standard firewall that comes with suse 11.3

ok weird… cant get it to work

ok weird… cant get it to work :frowning:

You can try testing with firewall turned off or check the firewall logs. Also be sure to have dnsmasq package installed.

Best regards,
Greg

I don’t know if this is true or not, I’ve never had a problem with it happening, but I’ve read in other threads that not all wireless cards support bridging. Maybe you have a card that doesn’t.
