Just wondering if anyone could suggest why I can’t get ANY networking working on M7. I have a broadcom wireless card, which I know I have to install WL for (or ndiswrapper, but I find WL easier), but I can’t even get the “Broadcom 440x 10/100” ethernet connection to work (which previously worked out of the box) and manually downloading and trying to install the packages as RPMs doesn’t work.
Anyone have any idea why this is, or how I might find a solution?
As you are using a test version you should consider writing a bug report.
(Of course you will have to provide sufficient information, which is a little more than you provided here, even if you want somebody helping you in this forum.)
I expected that to write a bug report, I’d need more information. It’s just I don’t know how to get any 
It’s not like an error pops up if I connect an ethernet cable. It just doesn’t react
Here’s the deal if you wish to use alpha/beta/pre-release then don’t expect much hand holding unless it is known.
Next you have to have some very basic troubleshooting skills, say the developer says I need a backtrace of xyz binary. Were you to know then you would have a basic understanding of the ways you would go about troubleshooting network problems i.e how all the bits go together and a rough idea where in the stack your problem may be.
If you don’t know where to begin then what you have is nothing more than a looksie.

Better provide a bit more data about your setup

I know how to do a traceback, but it’s not like something is crashing - it’s as though the driver isn’t installed (even though it doesn’t need an additional one). I wasn’t expecting “handholding” but maybe a suggestion on finding where the problem was.
Camaleón, I tried both methods, but ifup also fails. Not just browsing is the issue, pings and everything else (it doesn’t even get to getting the DNS servers from the router), it doesn’t establish any connection at all. Though I see a recently added issue in Bugzilla which might be the same. It doesn’t have a solution, but it does have a workaround, so I’ll see if I can get it working using that.

We are not “wizards” (well, maybe someone yes :-P) to know what the problem
could be
We need to know some “background” before (for example, the output of the
commands I told you) so we can get an approach to the problem… if you
want we to help you, of course.
It can be anything… if the adapter in not even detected, maybe the module
of the card is not properly loaded or is loading the wrong one. If you are
not getting an IP, you can try by using static one (instead of using a dhcp
setup). It also can be a bug, of course, and so on…

I have two questions? (1) Are you sure you need the Broadcom wl
driver, or ndiswrapper? That will depend on the model of wireless
device you have. You may just need to install firmware. (2) Have you
done anything to blacklist ssb? If so, that will be interfering with
your 440x as it MUST have ssb to work. In case you did not
understand that, the Broadcom wl driver or ndiswrapper with the
Windows driver are incompatible with the 440x!!!
I have M7 with ndiswrapper (WL wouldn’t compile w/ M6 kernel and I dropped it since). nm-applet worked w/ M6, but fails since update (says networking Disabled).
It fails to get any responses from NetworkManager/dbus…
console gives:

Try to configure your network interfaces with Yast, by temporarily disabling NetworkManager, which at this stage could be buggy; once your network is up and running, try again to enable NetworkManager.
Beside this, verify to have all the PolicyKit pkgs and related deps. installed onto your M7, as not all the requested went installed.
Finally, visit opensuse-factory ML and search for Dbus/PolicyKit threads.

remove the knetwork config files, kill the network manager and restart it.
it wasn’t working for me either, until I deleted the config files.
