Network not starting after power off.

I thought I would give my PC a rest so I shut her down last night.
Alas, when I turned it on this morning there was no wifi connection.

Maybe there is an easier way but this is what I did to get it working.
I went into Yast and activated ifup, configured a connection, then switched back to Network Manager.

That seemed to do it except that I lost the Network Manager aplet in the system bar.

Is this to be expected whenever I power off ?

I plan to try it again tonight.

thanks
